Press CTRL+A and press Delete to remove all files and folders. Open File Explorer go to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. Open a command prompt with Administrative Privileges, run the following: Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter. You may go to Device Manager and update the device driver before performing below two methods. And it is very common and it is occurs when the operating system and the drivers installed are not companionable with each other. The windows error code 0x800700A1 is generally generated due to errors reported by the driver itself meaning that this error is a software problem or compatibility issues between the hardware installed and the system being used. Then my download started again from 0% but this time some new files were downloaded.As far as I research, this code 0x800700a1 represents driver problem. And yes i saw no files in the $Windows.~WS folder for a while but all the previously downloaded files were vanished temporarily which showed up again. I thought running the media creation tool again would delete all the previously downloaded files. Doing that multiple times it finally ran again. As instructed in the message i restarted my pc and tried to run the media creation tool again and again after rebooting my pc but the result was same. In this case what i did is once again tried to run the media creation tool as an administrator but it’ll say something like ” set up tool didn’t download some important files”……… and then show…… ”the setup tool failed to……….reboot your pc and try again”.
For the first time when i ran the media creation tool every thing was good till 96% of download but suddenly the window disappeared automatically. Now in the $Windows.~WS folder you find source folder if you don’t find the Windows folder that means your download is not complete.
You can do this by folder properties option in organize tab as shown above. first you have to make sure that any folder in the root drive is not hidden.
In the root folder you can see only $Windows.~BT because the $Windows.~WS folder is hidden. Hi, i used media creation tool and chose upgrade pc to download windows 10.
